Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 1, 2026

This page explains what Home Finances stores about you, why, and what you can do about it. It describes the service as it works today.

  1. 1. Who runs the service

    • Home Finances is run by its administrator as a private, non-commercial project.
    • For any question about your data, write to the address at the bottom of this page.
  2. 2. What we store

    • Your account: email address, a one-way hash of your password (the password itself is never stored), interface language and the time you registered.
    • What you enter: accounts and account groups, currencies, categories, transactions, bills, budgets and your notes.
    • Your settings: primary currency, first day of the week, dashboard and report preferences.
    • Messages you send through “Report a problem”: the text, the address of the page you were on (without its parameters), device type, interface language and browser name.
    • Technical records: the server log keeps the IP address and the pages requested; passwords and email addresses are filtered out of it. Short-lived counters by IP address protect the sign-in and registration forms from abuse.
  3. 3. What we don't collect

    • We don't connect to your bank and never ask for bank logins or card numbers.
    • There are no advertising or analytics trackers and no third-party cookies.
    • Your data is not sold or passed on for marketing.
  4. 4. Why we use it

    • To provide the app: show your accounts, totals, budgets and reports.
    • To sign you in and keep your account secure.
    • To send service emails: a password reset and a notice when your email or password changes.
    • To reply to the problems you report.
  5. 5. Cookies and browser storage

    • A session cookie keeps you signed in and remembers the language you picked. The session ends after a period of inactivity.
    • If you tick “Remember me”, a second cookie keeps you signed in on that device.
    • Your light or dark theme choice is saved in your browser's local storage and never leaves it.
  6. 6. Who else receives data

    • An email delivery provider receives your email address and the text of the service emails we send you.
    • The exchange-rate source receives only currency codes (for example USD, EUR) — nothing about you.
    • A hosting provider runs the server the data is stored on.
    • The administrator's area in the app shows account emails and the messages users send; it does not show your financial records. As the person who maintains the server, the administrator has technical access to the database.
  7. 7. How it is protected

    • Connections use HTTPS.
    • Every record belongs to one account: other users can't see or change your data.
    • Sign-in attempts are rate-limited.
    • No system is perfectly secure — please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
  8. 8. How long it is kept and how to delete it

    • Your data is kept for as long as your account exists.
    • You can delete your account in Settings at any time: the account and everything in it — accounts, transactions, bills, budgets, settings and the messages you sent — is removed right away.
    • Server logs are stored separately from your account and are not removed with it.
  9. 9. Your choices

    • See and correct your data in the app at any time.
    • Download your reports as CSV files.
    • Delete your account yourself, or write to us and we will do it.
    • Ask what we hold about you, or raise a concern, by email.
  10. 10. Changes to this page

    • When the service changes, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.
